It  can take up to a half hour to copy 1 gig. On the case it states 2.5″ Sata USB 2.0 certified

Also, when I copy data to it, a message appears ” Cannot read from source file or disk”.

I put another hard disk in it, but still same problem.

When I turn it on, it makes a beeping noise and the LED flashes continuously. This is my back-up drive but it holds a lot of files which I can’t replace. Help is appreciated- thanks!!

I have a Maxtor 3200 External USB Hard Drive… I was moving files on it when it disappeared from My Computer… I tried unplugging it and replugging it in but it didnt show. When I went to Disk Management it showed up as inactive with the only option to initialize. I clicked initialize.. waitied and then it was it was active again, but still doesnt show up in My Computer. Does Initializing a volume reformat the drive.. or do I have a chacne that my information is still on the drive and recoverable?
